不久前，網(wǎng)易雷火游戲2023年全國(guó)游戲開(kāi)發(fā)大賽正式落幕，來(lái)自寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)的學(xué)生團(tuán)隊(duì)“板凳龍工作室”在全國(guó)幾十所大學(xué)的一百多支參賽隊(duì)伍中脫穎而出，斬獲了全國(guó)決賽六大獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)之一的最佳人氣獎(jiǎng)。這也是參與本次比賽的寧波市大學(xué)生代表隊(duì)中，唯一一支晉級(jí)總決賽并獲得全國(guó)獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)的隊(duì)伍。

據(jù)了解，“板凳龍”團(tuán)隊(duì)一共八名成員，來(lái)自三大學(xué)院。其中，工作室負(fù)責(zé)人兼游戲策劃盧羽豐是一名教育與英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)言文學(xué)系的大四學(xué)生。因?yàn)闊釔?ài)游戲，常常分析、撰寫(xiě)游戲測(cè)評(píng)的他萌生了想要自己帶隊(duì)開(kāi)發(fā)一款游戲的念頭。時(shí)值大賽啟動(dòng)，盧羽豐召集了國(guó)際商務(wù)與德語(yǔ)專(zhuān)業(yè)的金芙丞負(fù)責(zé)市場(chǎng)和資源拓展，又請(qǐng)到計(jì)算機(jī)科學(xué)專(zhuān)業(yè)的五名同學(xué)負(fù)責(zé)游戲的開(kāi)發(fā)，以及國(guó)際傳播學(xué)專(zhuān)業(yè)的劉海添統(tǒng)籌項(xiàng)目的宣傳和公關(guān)。盧羽豐說(shuō)，團(tuán)隊(duì)幾乎全員都是游戲制作方面的“菜鳥(niǎo)”。但就是這樣一支“非正規(guī)軍”在短短一個(gè)月的比賽時(shí)間里，完成了游戲的策劃、研發(fā)和調(diào)試。最終，由他們開(kāi)發(fā)的Omni項(xiàng)目以獨(dú)具創(chuàng)意的游戲設(shè)置和流暢的核心體驗(yàn)獲得了全國(guó)線(xiàn)上人氣獎(jiǎng)。

這款名為Omni的游戲包含了平臺(tái)跳躍和解謎兩大元素。玩家需要扮演一種叫“Omni”的微型生物，并利用自身特性不斷揭開(kāi)謎題，成長(zhǎng)為終極生物。Omni的其中一個(gè)核心特質(zhì)是可以將自身的一部分作為武器進(jìn)行射擊，為此團(tuán)隊(duì)設(shè)計(jì)了蹺蹺板、按鈕門(mén)等諸多互動(dòng)機(jī)關(guān)，來(lái)增強(qiáng)游戲的互動(dòng)性和體驗(yàn)感。為實(shí)現(xiàn)這些游戲設(shè)定，開(kāi)發(fā)團(tuán)隊(duì)自學(xué)游戲開(kāi)發(fā)引擎、不斷優(yōu)化細(xì)節(jié)，才讓游戲呈現(xiàn)更符合真實(shí)的物理環(huán)境。

大三學(xué)生周陸輝說(shuō)：

“我們?cè)诖笕囊婚T(mén)課中，接觸了Java語(yǔ)言，也嘗試用Java維護(hù)和改進(jìn)了一款游戲。也許是受此啟發(fā)，當(dāng)我們要學(xué)Unity引擎時(shí)，我們幾個(gè)計(jì)算機(jī)的同學(xué)都特別有熱情。我們的指導(dǎo)老師Boon Giin Lee博士也在游戲的戰(zhàn)略上給了我們?cè)S多建議?！?/p>

計(jì)算機(jī)科學(xué)專(zhuān)業(yè)的大四學(xué)生文昕壘說(shuō)：

“雖然我們平時(shí)玩起游戲來(lái)覺(jué)得很簡(jiǎn)單，但是實(shí)際做起來(lái)才發(fā)現(xiàn)，游戲里很多司空見(jiàn)慣的功能與設(shè)計(jì)在開(kāi)發(fā)上注入了開(kāi)發(fā)者大量的巧思和對(duì)細(xì)節(jié)的把控，這才讓游戲世界變得更符合人的直覺(jué)?！?/p>

扎實(shí)的理論基礎(chǔ)、自我學(xué)習(xí)能力和團(tuán)隊(duì)合作精神顯然是“板凳龍”能戰(zhàn)勝挑戰(zhàn)、取得飛躍式成長(zhǎng)的關(guān)鍵因素。

工作室負(fù)責(zé)人盧羽豐說(shuō)：

“團(tuán)隊(duì)成員們對(duì)游戲制作有很真摯的熱愛(ài)，也有很強(qiáng)的執(zhí)行力。記得很多個(gè)周末我們?cè)诮淌依镆黄鸸タ思夹g(shù)上的難題，那種合作的感覺(jué)很讓人印象深刻。經(jīng)過(guò)這次比賽后大家都進(jìn)步了很多，功能如何實(shí)現(xiàn)、工作流的改進(jìn)、溝通的方法等等都得到了提升?！?/p>

盧羽豐表示，在團(tuán)隊(duì)參賽的過(guò)程中，學(xué)校給予了多方面的支持與鼓勵(lì)，團(tuán)隊(duì)也將持續(xù)優(yōu)化當(dāng)前的游戲版本，開(kāi)發(fā)出更多有創(chuàng)意的玩法，并將Omni做成一個(gè)完整的項(xiàng)目上架售賣(mài)。

據(jù)悉，在這個(gè)畢業(yè)季，團(tuán)隊(duì)的幾位大四學(xué)生都收獲了理想的offer。盧羽豐將前往多倫多大學(xué)，在數(shù)字媒體和語(yǔ)言教學(xué)的交叉領(lǐng)域繼續(xù)深造，同時(shí)他也計(jì)劃在游戲制作領(lǐng)域持續(xù)探索，開(kāi)發(fā)一款教育相關(guān)的嚴(yán)肅游戲。團(tuán)隊(duì)另一名大四學(xué)生文昕壘也收獲了澳大利亞國(guó)立大學(xué)的“橄欖枝”，將進(jìn)行計(jì)算機(jī)碩士階段的學(xué)習(xí)。

UNNC student team wins big at national game development competition

The "Bench Dragon Studio" student team from the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) were the winners of the Players’ Choice Award, one of the six national final awards, in the 2023 national game development competition hosted by NetEase Games (ThunderFire).

The team consists of eight members from three UNNC faculties. Among them, the team leader and chief planner, Yufeng Lu, is a fourth-year student studying English Language and Literature. Driven by his passion for games, he often analyses and writes game reviews, and was eventually inspired to lead his own team in developing a game. When the competition launched, Yufeng recruited Fucheng Jin from International Business and German to be responsible for market and resource development, invited five Computer Science students to be responsible for game development, and asked Haitian Liu, majoring in International Communications, to oversee the project’s publicity efforts and public relations. Yufeng said that in the beginning almost all of the team members were rookies in game production. Yet, this amateur team completed the planning, development, and debugging of the game in just one month for the competition. In the end, their game, titled Omni, won the National Online Players’ Choice Award for its creative game settings and its smooth core experience.

Omni is a mix of platform gaming with puzzle solving elements where players play the role of a tiny creature called "Omni", and continuously solve puzzles by using the creature’s own traits to grow into the “ultimate” creature. In order to enhance the interactivity and experience of the game, the development team taught themselves how to use game development engines and continuously optimised details to create a more realistic physical environment.

Luhui Zhou, a team member in charge of game development, said, "We were introduced to the Java language in one of our third-year modules, and we tried to maintain and improve the game using it. Our supervisor Dr Boon Giin Lee also gave us many suggestions on the game’s strategy.”

Xinlei Wen, another team member, added, "Although we might find playing games very simple, after actually trying to develop a game ourselves, we realised that many common features and designs in games require developers to put a lot of thought into it and pay a lot of attention to details so as to make the game world more intuitive."

A solid theoretical foundation, self-learning ability, and team spirit are clearly the key factors for “Bench Dragon Studio”. Yufeng said, "The team members have a real passion for game production and are good at execution. I remember us working together in the classroom to tackle technical problems over many weekends and that strong sense of teamwork left a deep impression on me. After this competition, everyone has improved greatly."

Yufeng stated that during the competition, UNNC provided the team with support and encouragement in many ways and that the team intends to continue optimising the current game version, develop more creative gameplay, and then turn Omni into a complete project for sale.

After graduation, Yufeng will be headed to the University of Toronto to continue his studies in the cross-cutting areas of digital media and language teaching. He also plans to continue exploring the field of game production and develop a serious game related to education. Xinlei, another fourth-year student on the team, has also received an offer from the Australian National University and will soon be pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science.
