Conference Background

Global competition is increasingly defined by rivalry for technological leadership, where firm performance and institutional strength are closely intertwined. Across sectors such as healthcare, AI, and electric vehicles, firms navigate fast-changing environments shaped by active state involvement. Thus, the coordination and competition among public and private actors across nations will shape the future trajectories of the global markets.

全球競爭日益體現(xiàn)為技術(shù)領(lǐng)導(dǎo)權(quán)的爭奪，企業(yè)績效與制度實(shí)力緊密交織。在醫(yī)療健康、人工智能、電動(dòng)汽車等諸多領(lǐng)域，企業(yè)需要在政府積極參與塑造的快速變化環(huán)境中尋求發(fā)展。各國公共與私營行為體之間的協(xié)調(diào)與競爭，將深刻影響全球市場的未來軌跡。

It is in this context that we call for participation in this conference, hosted by Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, and co-sponsored by the McDonnel International Scholars Academy and Boeing Center for Supply Chain Innovation at WashU, and the Institute of International Business and Management, Peking University.

在此背景下，第四屆全球創(chuàng)新與知識(shí)產(chǎn)權(quán)（GIIP）國際學(xué)術(shù)研討會(huì)將于2026年5月在北京大學(xué)舉辦。本屆會(huì)議由北京大學(xué)光華管理學(xué)院主辦，華盛頓大學(xué)麥克唐納國際學(xué)者學(xué)院、波音供應(yīng)鏈創(chuàng)新中心以及北京大學(xué)國際商務(wù)與管理研究所共同協(xié)辦，旨在搭建一個(gè)跨學(xué)科、跨國界的對話平臺(tái)，推動(dòng)對全球創(chuàng)新生態(tài)與知識(shí)產(chǎn)權(quán)體系的深度理解。

征稿主題

Call for Themes

我們歡迎圍繞（但不限于）以下方向的實(shí)證與理論論文：

Finding facts:What are the realities on the ground and what are the important trends that may shed light to the future? Many public discussions so far are based on entrenched opinions and stereotypical views. We are providing a public good if we can simply identify the facts and establish robust explanations for these facts.

Understanding complexities:Is strong IP protection always good? Is knowledge outflow always bad? To what extent do our understanding about IP, derived mostly from domestic settings, still hold in the context of global competition? What is the right level of indigenous innovation in light of the interdependence—and associated vulnerabilities—in the global economy?

Developing toolboxes:Besides filing for patents, what are the tools businesses can use to navigate the risky R&D processes, both within and across countries? Besides strengthening legal protection, what are the tools that policy makers can use to motivate innovation while reducing systematic risk? Will big data and AI help firms see the competitive landscape more clearly?

-政策工具箱：激勵(lì)創(chuàng)新與控制系統(tǒng)性風(fēng)險(xiǎn)的多元手段

每篇入選論文將在圓桌研討環(huán)節(jié)獲得深度點(diǎn)評(píng)與反饋，該環(huán)節(jié)將由Minyuan Zhao(Olin School of Business, WashU)、武常岐(北京大學(xué)光華管理學(xué)院)、仲為國（北京大學(xué)光華管理學(xué)院）三位主持。

會(huì)議形式

Conference Format

This conference will have two components：

本屆會(huì)議將采用學(xué)術(shù)研討與業(yè)界對話相結(jié)合的形式：

Academic discussions, taking stock of what we know and brainstorming on what academia can do for better understanding on global innovation and IP. We will select a small number of papers for in-depth discussion, and set up poster sessions for early-stage research.

學(xué)術(shù)專場：遴選高質(zhì)量論文進(jìn)行深度報(bào)告與評(píng)議，并設(shè)置海報(bào)展示環(huán)節(jié)，歡迎早期研究或初步成果參與交流。

Interaction with business executives, IP lawyers, and policy makers, featuring panel discussions and case illustrations. We may also have industry-specific themes for more focused discussion. This is an opportunity for practitioners to learn about new research and for researchers to receive reality check on their work.

產(chǎn)業(yè)與政策專場：邀請來自企業(yè)、律所、政府及國際組織的高層代表，開展專題研討、案例分析與跨界對話，促進(jìn)學(xué)界與實(shí)務(wù)界的雙向啟發(fā)。

Submission Requirements

• Please submit an extended research proposal or working paper in English via theconference official website.

  請通過會(huì)議官網(wǎng)提交英文擴(kuò)展研究提綱或工作論文。

• Submitted papers should be original and must not have been previously published or presented at other conferences or in journals.

  論文應(yīng)具有原創(chuàng)性，未在其它會(huì)議或期刊公開發(fā)表。

• Authors of accepted papers will receive in-depth feedback from leading scholars.
